Assignment #3 - My Entrepreneurship Story

Back at home I live on a 50 acre farm. We have horses, cows, goats, dogs, and chickens. At first, we had the animals simply as pets, but now that all my siblings and I are out of high school my mom has been thinking of ways to make money from our animals. She currently has over 100 chickens that she takes care of and collects and sells their eggs. This venture is for fun and the money she makes from the eggs she puts back into the feed for the chickens. They pay for themselves as we like to call it. Over the last year or so though, we have started to think of ways we could make a profit and we decided on breeding goats.
We are currently breeding our goats and expecting babies in February. Our plan is to offer goat yoga classes to those in our community for a month after the babies are born. Then after a month we will sell the babies but continue to milk the mothers and produce farm fresh goat soap and goat cheese to sell.  It has been exciting planning how we are going to do everything over the last few months. The biggest thing I found was making sure there were people who wanted to buy baby goats as well as natural goat products. We found that the market for both is rather large. I am excited for the babies to be here and actually start making some money by doing things my mom and I both love.
At first, I enrolled in ENT3003 simply because it fulfilled one of my requirements to graduate. After looking at the class syllabus and watching the first few lectures though I got excited about what I was going to learn in this class. In this class I hope to learn tools that will help me be successful as an entrepreneur as well as how to successful turn an idea into a business.

  1. Live agriculture is often a great way to start a business out of almost nothing. As long as you put in the time, effort, and love into those animals, they can give a lot back to you!
I also think it's cool how you get to have a business opportunity with your family! It's a great way to bring you all closer and have a great time while making a living for yourself!

  2. Thank you for sharing! There definitely seems to be some opportunity for entrepreneurship seeing as the farm has the resources to provide sustainable profits. Not only that, but you will be driving profits while doing something both you and your mom love, so it is a win win situation all throughout. Best of luck with your farming endeavors, it would definitely be cool to hear more about it in future posts.
